Ingredients

1 1/2 Cups (375ml) Almond Milk (though you can substitute soy or cows' milk)
1/2 a Banana
6 dry, pitted Dates
1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) Cocoa Powder

Supermarkets are stocking lots of “new” non dairy milks now.  In this recipe I have used  almond milk.  It has a sweet and nutty taste and pairs really well with date, banana and cocoa. You can experiment with other types of milk or just use regular old cows’ milk if you can’t get almond.

Dates contain a veritable alphabet of vitamins, along with fibre, iron and potassium but they are high in fructose so are great in moderation.  This makes a delicious breakfast drink or afternoon pick-me-up.

  1. Put the dates into a small bowl and cover with boiling water.  Let them sit for 5-10 minutes to soften.
  2. Drain the softened dates and put them into a blender with the almond milk, banana and cocoa powder and blend until smooth.  If you are using unsweetened almond milk you may wish to add a little honey to sweeten.
